We all know that basic rule of success: set realistic goals. When it comes to my blog, I have yet to set any goals, let alone realistic ones. Typical me really – I think I’m all planned, but really I have just blindly set off and don’t worry about where I’m going.
What else is important about goals? They need to be SMART.
Blog Goal 1
Specific: Post twice per week: one a little short one, one a bit more substantial.
Measurable: Starting in the first week of February, I will be posting twice per week. (Monday and Thursday – unless something significant occurs that changes one of those days).
Achievable: Definitely achievable. Just need to make sure that I don’t get distracted when I am writing the blogs (I’m a grown up – I should be able to manage that – lol). And I will set aside a time to write blogs ahead of time so that if I get caught up doing something else, the blog is already sorted the facility to schedule electronically is wonderful).
Realistic: I have posted two posts per week in the past – I just haven’t kept it up. But I know it’s realistic.
Timely: Very timely:
- I’m undertaking a blogging course so I’m more focussed than usual on the blog
- February is four days away – enough time to get organised, not too far away.
Blog Goal 2
Specific: Think of a catchy name for one type of blog by the start of February. Examples from the WordPress blogging course include: ‘Throwback Thursdays, Wordless Wednesdays, Soup Sundays’.

Measurable: A post written (not necessarily published) under the catchy title.
Achievable: Well – I can certainly think of a title I can use regularly. Whether it is catchy is in the eye of the beholder. It will be catchy to me anyway.
Realistic: What can I say – but absolutely!
Timely: What better time to do it than when I have goals set to write regularly?
Blog Goal 3
This one is a little harder to decide on – especially when I’m happy with the two I have. But the assignment requires three goals. So:

Specific: Organise a guest poster by end of February.
Measurable: I will have the guest poster named, with a date set, by the end of February.
Achievable: I’m pretty confident I can do this!
Realistic: Yep.
Timely: I can do it by end of February – I think. Yes! Yes I can!
I’m off to start on those goals!
Cheers

I love this. I tend to avoid goal setting as it was a big part of my working life but your post makes me feel I ought to do it.
