I love historical fiction. I love reading it and I love writing it. But sometimes – it is frustrating. Even though it is fiction, I am determined to be as historically accurate as possible – including the right colloquial language.
I just spent and hour trying to establish without doubt the colloquial language used not only in Australia in 1883 but in Staffordshire, England, in 1883. Found great sites for Australia and England – but were those words used in 1883 and in Staffordshire?
Does it really matter? It is fiction? But I also take my History seriously – and I want it accurate.
Any suggestions welcome!
Cheers
